What is an RS rating?
A rank from 1 to 99, shown on this site as the RS rank, that compares a stock's price performance with every other US stock we cover. A rating of 90 means the stock has outperformed 90% of the market. It is recalculated after every close, so leaders and laggards show up as they change.
Is an RS rating the same as RSI?
No. RSI, the relative strength index, is an oscillator that compares a stock's recent gains with its own recent losses, and says nothing about other stocks. An RS rating compares the stock with the rest of the market. A stock can have a high RSI and a low RS rating at the same time.
What is Mansfield relative strength?
The version Stan Weinstein used: a line that compares a stock with a market index over time, drawn around zero, so a line above zero means the stock is beating the index. An RS rating answers the same question across the whole market at once: where does this stock stand among all US stocks today?
Is this the IBD RS Rating?
No. Investor's Business Daily publishes its own RS Rating from its own data. Ours is calculated independently each night from our end-of-day prices and uses the same 1 to 99 scale, so the two will not match number for number. Stage2Stocks is not affiliated with Investor's Business Daily.
Is a high RS rating a reason to buy?
Not on its own. Strong relative strength in a Stage 2 uptrend is the mark of a leader, but a stock that has already run far from its base can rate 99 and still be a late entry. Read it with the stage and the early-entry badge, and check the market first.
Which stocks are ranked, and when does it update?
Every US common stock and ADR we cover on the NYSE, Nasdaq and NYSE American, about 5,300 companies, on each day's closing prices. ETFs and funds are left out. The ranks update every trading day after the close; the nightly run starts at 5:30pm ET.
