Stage 2 — Advancing

Today: 70% of US stocks (2,643)

Price breaks out of the base on a surge of volume and the average turns up. Higher highs and higher lows: buyers are in control.

Buy. This is where to own stocks: the breakout, or the first pullbacks toward the average. Our screener hunts here.

Stage 2 is the confirmed uptrend phase from Stan Weinstein's methodology, the green line in the diagram above. Here, a Stage 2 stock is one whose 50-day moving average sits above its 200-day and is still rising: the structural signature of an uptrend. The screener finds US stocks currently in that condition.
Setup score (0–10) ranks Stage 2 stocks by the quality of their trend, of which speed is only one part. It's our in-house quant model, weighing a stock's moving averages, its recent performance against its longer-term performance, the strength behind the move, distance from its 52-week high and how mature the run is. Years of testing went into which factors count and by how much. A higher score means a cleaner structure.
Market Timing tells you whether conditions are right to act on setups at all. It tracks what % of US stocks are in Stage 2 uptrends and classifies the current market regime, from Bear to Bull, with Turning, Neutral and Caution states between. Check it before looking at any individual setups.
