Friday's breadth retreat partly reversed, but the damage to advancing trends deepened. The market remains Neutral — Fading. This is still a selective chart-review market, with more reason to check existing watchlists for deterioration than to expand them on the strength of one session.

Energy's resilience breaks

Energy held up Friday. Tonight it was the weakest sector, and its Stage 2 share slipped from 56.2% to 53.9%. It still leads on relative strength and advancing participation, but that leadership no longer comes with stable participation. Oil and gas equipment and services has lost 31.3 percentage points of Stage 2 share over 20 sessions. Separate the remaining established trends from the erosion underneath.

Technology loses participation too

The technology rebuild we have been tracking took another hit. The sector fell 2.4%, and semiconductor Stage 2 participation slipped from 35.2% Friday to 32.1%. Among the established trends, Apple sits 1.4% above its 50-day average. NVIDIA and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing sit 8.8% and 8.2% below theirs. Their long Stage 2 histories do not erase that weakness. Intel and Astera Labs moved from Stage 2 advancing into Stage 3 topping tonight, making them important classification checks for existing holders.

Staples earn a closer look

Consumer staples now deserves a separate review: it leads the sectors over one month with a 14.2% gain. Grocery stores and discount stores both have 44.4% advancing participation, with gains over 20 sessions. Coca-Cola appears among the established trends, though it is already 7.2% above its 50-day average. The exchange pocket we flagged Friday also held up, rising 1.8% with 72.7% in Stage 2. Chubb returned to Stage 2 tonight, but financials overall remain thin at 23.8%. Tomorrow's screening should distinguish these pockets from broad sector rebounds.
